A Letter to Element Church
To our Element Church family. Grace and peace to you in Christ Jesus.
We are excited to transition back to in person services here at Element Church for those who feel comfortable attending. You have no idea how much discussion has gone on with our board and leadership teams about beginning this and how to honor God while protecting our community. We also have done our best to synthesize what you have expressed to us in our church survey into this. Making choices on what to do in this season has been challenging and we humbly ask that you consider praying for us.
We know that we don’t have all the answers. We also know that we don’t have to. From the beginning of this crisis we have chosen as the leadership of Element Church to err on the side of caution. We do not test the Lord our God. This is consistent with our teaching on healing and the teaching of our denomination the Assemblies of God.
We also respect the leadership of our government and health care workers. Element Church actually chose to switch to online services before we were required to by anyone and stayed online only for longer than we legally had to. Also many of those in health care in our church have expressed the need for caution and being deliberate in how we reopen. We appreciate their service to others in this time and appreciate their wisdom.
As we officially reopen for in-person services this Sunday, June 28th for our 10:30am service we wanted to give you some clear pastoral instructions on what it will look like and why.
As a community:
- We are using social distancing and having people stay in their family group and stay 6ft apart from others.
- We are using hand sanitizer on your way in and out.
- We are wearing face masks over our faces covering our mouth and nose.
- We are staying home if any of us have been sick in the last seven days.
At the service:
- There is no hospitality service at this time.
- Communion is pre-packaged and in your seat. It is set out with gloved hands four days before service.
- Element Kid’s is currently closed. Pastor Tim’s kids message is remaining in the service and we are keeping services shorter so that you can bring your kids to church if you choose.
Each of these is a tool to say one thing to others in the church and to our community: We love our neighbor and choose to protect them in a time where much is unknown about this virus. We set down our rights at the foot of the cross and remember what the Apostle Paul taught the Church, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking out to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:14-15.
We are asking everyone in our family to protect others even if they are not worried about getting sick themselves.
During service all staff and volunteers will be following these instructions. In addition to that we are committed to cleaning and sanitizing our facility with products that have been approved by the CDC to kill COVID-19. We also continue to encourage anyone who is at risk or not yet comfortable attending in person (this includes anyone to whom a mask is a stumbling block) to attend online. If you don’t have communion supplies we can provide you with them for worship at home.
We miss being able to worship with you in person. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to us at email@example.com. Hope to see you in person or online this Sunday!
